Media Arts and Technology Portfolio

My concept for this project was to put together a set of three graphite drawings to bring a sense of home, decoration, and familiarity into my dorm in Santa Barbara. I have these drawings kind of function as a small triptych with one larger piece and two smaller pieces, painterly in effect.

Using TouchDesigner, my portion of the project combines a generative star field made from a grid/noise-based dot pattern in TOPs with a spinning, reflective disco ball built from sphere geometry in SOPs/COMPs. Together, they merge a 2D textured background technique with a 3D rotating geometry technique into one composite scene.

Drawing on cultural theorist Stuart Hall's concept of representation as a framework. This paper is a comparative visual analysis examining how graphic design shapes the cultural identity of a musical genre. I used two album covers- Reid Miles' 1958 design for Sonny Clark's Cool Struttin' and the 1976 cover art for Donna Summer's Four Seasons of Love to compare.
